Esandi Kalugalage

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical Engineering)
Liveris Undergraduate Scholar

Esandi is studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), majoring in Electrical with a minor in Data Science.

She graduated from Brisbane State High School in 2019 and found a passion in debating, teamwork, and community service. She was 1 of 12 recipients of the Queensland Government’s Peter Doherty Award for Excellence in STEM Education.

In 2020, Esandi immersed herself in Liveris Academy opportunities and hosted a podcast interviewing Professor Deborah Terry - UQ Vice-Chancellor - about empowering women in leadership positions as part of the Liveris Academy Distinguished Speaker Series.

She is a keen volunteer: being a UQ Women in Engineering Student Leader, Social Officer at UQ Engineering Undergraduate Society Connect (EUS) and Operations & Activities Manager at Youth without Borders’ Spark Engineering Camp Brisbane.

During her time at UQ, Esandi aims to build technical and interpersonal skills that will equip her to work as a power engineer in the future, facilitating the generation, transmission, and usage of electricity. She is also interested in the development of sustainable energy sources, particularly solar and nuclear power. She was a recipient of the Australian Power Institute Bursary in 2020.

Outside of her studies, you’ll find her working in retail, cooking up a storm or spending time with her friends. She is very excited for the opportunities that lie ahead in the Academy.
