Esandi Kalugalage

Liveris Academy Alumnus

Esandi Kalugalage completed a  Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), with a major in Electrical and minor in Data Science in 2023.

Esandi commenced this degree in 2020 with an interest in integrating more renewable energy sources into electricity networks. Over her four years at the University of Queensland, Esandi has completed two internships and undertook part-time work at Queensland’s electricity distribution network service provider, as well as completing her final-year Honours thesis alongside Queensland’s transmission network service provider.

Since commencing at UQ, she has enjoyed getting involved in various clubs and societies, including being Secretary (2022) and Vice President (2023) of UQ Skirts in Engineering and a Women in Engineering Student Leader from 2021-2023. Esandi is passionate about encouraging other women to pursue engineering.

Esandi recognises the Liveris Academy as an important factor in her personal and educational growth over her four years at university. Notably, the Liveris Academy encouraged her to produce her own podcast episode as part of the Liveris Academy Distinguished Speaker Series in 2020 where she interviewed UQ Vice-Chancellor, Professor Deborah Terry, about empowering women in leadership positions. Also, an international travel grant by the Liveris Academy enabled Esandi to study abroad at the London School of Economics for three weeks in 2023, learning about the ethics of data science and artificial intelligence.
