As part of the New Colombo Plan Scholarship, Joshua Ryu spent six months in South Korea, embracing new challenges through language immersion, study, research, and cultural exchange. While studying neuroscience, nutrition, disease, and immunology at Korea University, they gained insight into South Korea's academic culture and built lasting connections through university societies and community groups.

Beyond the brilliant culture of innovation at DTU, this exchange expanded my international network and provided a deep perspective on what it truly means to live in a foreign country, rather than just visit. Being immersed in such a different environment has sharpened my communication and problem-solving skills—core competencies I know I will retain forever.

In October, I had the privilege of representing The University of Queensland at the Asia Pacific Cities Summit in Dubai, Brisbane City Council’s flagship international event that brought together mayors, innovators, and urban leaders to shape the cities of tomorrow.

Reading back this reflection I know it’s very disjointed. I wrote some of it slowly over months and then a lot all at once in the airport to go home. I’ve titled the sections to give it some structure.
