Amber Spurway

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
Andrew N. Liveris Academy Scholar, 2020

Amber is studying a Bachelor of Engineering and plans to major in chemical and biological engineering.

She graduated from Rangi Ruru Girls’ School in Christchurch in 2019, as Proxime Accessit and was awarded the prize for the student with outstanding potential as well as the foreign language prize for Spanish.

Over her high school years, she has maintained a dedication to STEM and has been fortunate enough to take part in many different science and leadership development opportunities including attending the Global STEM Alliance Summit in New York, and two weeks in NASA at CASE Space School.

In her senior year of high school, she was proud to hold the leadership position of Head of Form Seniors, where she coordinated and ran a wellbeing program for 450 junior students.

Outside of her studies, Amber has a passion for the outdoors and loves the ocean and the beach, and you can often find her on a boat or in the surf. This passion for nature has sparked an interest in sustainability, and Amber is looking forward to working with the Liveris Academy to create a collaborative community focused on creating sustainability innovations. In particular, she wants to combat the buildup of microplastics in the environment, specifically in waterways and in the ocean.
