Sofia Banks

Sofia is studying the integrated Bachelor and Master of Engineering program, majoring in Chemical Engineering. She is also completing a Diploma of Languages in Italian at Griffith University. 

In 2020 she graduated from All Hallows' School as Dux of Year 12, and first in Chemistry and Italian. Her studies formed only a portion of her high school experience; however, being involved in a variety of activities including football, athletics, music ensembles, and social and environmental justice initiatives. 

During her engineering degree, Sofia has developed strong interests in the biomedical and environmental applications of chemical engineering. She gained valuable experience in the rapid diagnostics industry as a vacation Student Engineer at Ellume. Sofia has also enjoyed continuing to improve her Italian through her diploma, which has allowed her to reconnect with family and spend six weeks working and studying in Rome, Italy. In the future, Sofia hopes to work in the renewable energy sector, especially now that hydrogen energy is making its way into Queensland. 

Outside of her studies, Sofia loves to play football and is a committed member of her local club team, which she has also managed. She also enjoys training with her athletics squad and partaking in ocean swims. In her downtime, Sofia likes reading and playing piano.  

Being a part of the Liveris Academy has greatly developed Sofia’s leadership skills and broadened her life experience. One of the highlights was spending two weeks in Bandung, Indonesia. She is honoured to be in the Liveris Academy and is excited for the opportunities to come.
