Jasper Chong

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) / Mathematics
Dalio Philanthropies Scholarship

Jasper began his studies at UQ in 2024, undertaking a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Mathematics, with a focus on software engineering and statistics. This was chosen to further his interests in the fields of statistics and computer programming.

In 2023 Jasper graduated from St Peters Lutheran College with an ATAR of 99.70, achieving 100/100 in both Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics subjects.

During his first year at UQ, Jasper achieved a GPA of 7, and participated in the EAIT Leaders Pathway Program,  the Leadership and Mentoring Program in Science, and began as the Treasurer for the UQ Mathematics Student Society in an effort to develop his leadership skills.

He participated in a 3 month internship at a tech startup focused on cybersecurity, and has continued working with this group. There he is engaged primarily in the development of a bespoke customer support AI model, including the applications and architecture surrounding it.

In addition he was fortunate to receive a 2025 Summer Research Program position on a project within UQ’s Centre for Digital Cultures and Societies. The project is exploring and developing infrastructure for large image dataset visualisation, with the goal of understanding whether this approach should be explored further in future.

Outside of his studies, Jasper enjoys fitness, wildlife photography, reading, and computer programming.

In future Jasper hopes to apply his skills in statistics and data science to help move towards solutions for “wicked problems”, through modelling and prediction.

Jasper was extremely honoured to join the Liveris Academy, and to have the opportunity to develop and learn within it.
