Siddesh Karekal

Siddesh is currently studying Bachelor of Advanced Finance and Economics at UQ. His academic journey is marked by a strong foundation and a passion for finance and economics that drives his pursuit of excellence.

Siddesh’s academic highlight started in Queensland Academies of Science, Math Technology, where he graduated with an IB 43.75 (99.55 ATAR). His high school tenure was adorned with numerous academic awards, including the platinum award (highest academic award) and being selected for the honours program, placing him among the top 5% of his peers. He also loved his time as a science ambassador, and actively participated in various volunteering activities within the Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) element of the International Baccalaureate program.

Building on his high school experience, Siddesh has continued to expand his leadership skills at UQ. He holds sub-executive roles in UQIES, UQ Fintech, and serves as a team leader at 180 Degrees Consulting. Furthermore, Siddesh has participated in many case competitions, with his team winning the Deloitte Access Economics Case Comp and placing third in the KMPG Case Comp and Weekend of Startups. He loves the collaboration and enjoys the thrill of meeting fast-paced deadlines.

Beyond academics, Siddesh has ventured into the start-up ecosystem with keen interest. His most notable learning was during the UQ Ventures Validate program, where his team secured third place. Currently, he is Co-Founder of the Australian Access Academy, a charity that provides free rural tutoring.

Outside of university, Siddesh loves playing sports and enjoys exploring diverse cultures through travel. As he continues his journey at UQ, Siddesh is poised to make significant contributions to the field of finance and economics and begin his own start-up venture.
