Shreyas Raman

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), majoring in Chemical Engineering/ Bachelor of Science majoring in Applied Mathematics                                                                                                                                                  Vice-Chancellor’s Scholar

Shreyas graduated as Dux of John Paul College (JPC) in 2022, and having received an ATAR of 99.95, commenced a dual degree in chemical engineering and applied mathematics.

At JPC, Shreyas attained a Bronze Medal in the distinguished Australian Mathematical Olympiad in both 2021 and 2022. He was awarded a UQ Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship in 2023, and his commitment to academic performance continued in university, scoring in the top quartile of participants globally in the prestigious Simon Marais Mathematics Competition.

Having completed an internship at BHP, Shreyas decided to pursue a career in the resources industry, with a vision to improve operational efficiency and reduce waste through the mining value chain. In 2024, he commenced as Treasurer at EUS Connect, and Student Advisor for both the UQ Student-Staff Partnerships Student Advisory Group and the UQ Institute of Teaching and Learning Innovation.

Furthermore, Shreyas was school Debating Captain, and on trombone, served as first chair in several premier ensembles. Additionally, having trained in karate for over twelve years, he recently attained the rank of Ni-Dan (second Dan) black belt. Following the commencement of his undergraduate degree, Shreyas has also volunteered over 100 hours in several organisations, including the UQ Union, Times Higher Education, and the Mini Farm Project.

Shreyas has a passion for innovation and creativity. He is always curious and hopes to utilise his unique talents and the opportunities conferred onto him by the Liveris Academy to address key issues in the resources industry and build a better world.
