Henry Yip

Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Medicine (Provisional Entry)                                                                             Vice-Chancellor’s Scholar

Henry is currently studying a Bachelor of Science, majoring in biomedical science. He hopes his undergraduate experience will uniquely equip him with the skills to become a proficient clinician.

Graduating from Brisbane Grammar School in 2021, Henry attributes his discipline and camaraderie to his high school years. He served as a senior mentor for middle school students in Year 12 and thoroughly enjoyed participating in the school's cross country and track and field programs. Ultimately, Henry's strong work ethic earned him a perfect ATAR of 99.95 and provisional entry into UQ's Doctor of Medicine program.

Maintaining his commitment to extracurricular activities, Henry is heavily involved with the UQ Premedical Society. In 2023, he was elected as the Academic Internal Vice-President, leading initiatives such as Networking Night and working closely with the School of Biomedical Sciences as a student representative. In his current role as Treasurer, Henry aims to continue fostering an inclusive space for all premedical students. Outside of university, Henry actively contributes to cancer immunotherapy research projects at the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute.

Henry emphasises work-life balance, frequently spending his downtime at the gym, going on runs, and self-teaching piano. Additionally, he is interested in First Aid and volunteers with the Brisbane Central First Aid Volunteers to enhance his skills.

During the 2023 summer holidays, Henry had the opportunity to participate in a sustainability study tour in Taiwan through the New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant. This experience highlighted the importance of sustainability in addressing complex global issues. Through the Liveris Academy’s mentorship, Henry wishes to leverage his experiences to devise sustainable strategies to reduce rural healthcare disparities in Australia."
