Bachelor of Mathematics/Bachelor of Arts
Liveris Undergraduate Scholar
Mikaela is currently studying a dual degree in Mathematics and Arts (linguistics). She graduated from Brisbane State High School in 2021 as Dux and recipient of the David Sutton Award for All Round Excellence and was additionally recognised as a QCE Distinguished Academic Achiever and Top-of-State for Physics.
In 2024, Mikaela was awarded both best-in-university and the IMC Prize for Female and Gender Diverse Entrants in the Simon Marais Mathematics Competition for undergraduate students. She began to compete in mathematics in high school, where in 2020 and 2021, Mikaela represented Australia at the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad and received a Bronze medal each time. She continues to encourage women in STEM though leadership, teaching, and volunteering.
Outside of her studies, Mikaela enjoys playing hockey, running, and competing in orienteering. Orienteering and hiking have allowed her to appreciate the natural environment and has heightened her awareness of sustainability issues. In 2022, 2023, and 2024, Mikaela represented Australia at the Junior World Orienteering Championships in Portugal, Romania, and Czechia, and she continues to train for future international competitions.
Mikaela is appreciative of the opportunities and learnings she has experienced through the Liveris Academy so far, including travelling to Indonesia and seeing first-hand the impacts of sustainable entrepreneurship. In 2023, she completed an exchange semester at McGill University, Canada and values the experiences that came from living overseas. In 2025, Mikaela is looking forward to expanding her knowledge and collaborating with likeminded peers as a Liveris Undergraduate and Vice Chancellor’s Scholar.
