Megan Barkman

Puttick Scholar
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)

A childhood spent on the small island of Guernsey has instilled in Megan a love of the natural world and a passion for environmental issues that she carries with her into her university studies. Like many people she is deeply concerned about the effects of climate change, and through her chosen course of study – a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), majoring in Environmental – she aims to become a positive force for change in this field.

In Guernsey, Megan attended a selective public school. After relocating to Australia in 2019 she completed her secondary studies at Mountain Creek State High School on the Sunshine Coast, achieving an exceptional ATAR score and several academic achievement awards.

Outside school she took a position at a large retail business, working her way up to a supervisory role and developing her leadership skills along the way. Years of hard work have paid off and she is now a recipient of the Puttick Scholarship for Women in IT and Engineering.

Megan is an avid traveller and is determined to make it happen any way possible. Since finishing high school, she has lovingly fitted out a second-hand van, turning it into a home-from-home that has given her the freedom to explore the country – Covid restrictions permitting. In her spare time, she has been teaching herself Spanish, and weekends are spent reading, surfing or bushwalking with her family.

She is honoured and thrilled to be chosen as a scholar of the Liveris Academy as she believes its values align closely with her own, and she is eager to make the most of the many opportunities that await her as a result of her selection.
