Arwen Keith is currently a Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at the University of Queensland as they believe it is imperative to have leaders who are fluent in both the legal and scientific frameworks. Arwen aims to enter a policymaking career developing sustainable solutions to the legal and ethical questions presented by genome editing technologies.
Arwen graduated as the Dux and Valedictorian of Stanthorpe State High School, achieving subject awards for all six subjects – including a Certificate of Excellence in Physics from the Australian Institute of Physics and top of the state for English & Literature Extension. As a result of their achievements, Arwen received a UQ Excellence Scholarship and is part of the UQ Young Achievers Program.
Arwen is passionate about social justice and education. As their school’s 2021 Wellbeing Prefect and Student Council President, they organised the NAIDOC Week and Pride Month celebrations, and coordinated ‘Show Your Colours Day’, an initiative they designed to create a more accepting and inclusive school environment for everyone.
Arwen has enjoyed all aspects of university life and was honoured to receive the Union College ‘Quiet Achiever Award’ in 2022 for their participation in many extra-curricular activities, such as being a coxswain in the Inter-College Rowing Competition and performing in the Union College One Act Play. Furthermore, Arwen participated in the UQ Law Society’s Junior Negotiations and Mooting competitions, volunteered backstage with the UQ Law Revue and had the highly rewarding experience of completing the UQ Ventures Validate Program for Entrepreneurship.
