Alumina Industry Scholar
Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
Sara is currently studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at UQ and is majoring in mechatronics engineering. In 2020, Sara graduated from Queensland Academy for Health Sciences as a consistent honour student, Gold Academic Award recipient and a student executive leader.
Sara spent a majority of her primary and early high-school years in France and India. This gave her the opportunity to experience numerous education systems and learn from the approaches of different cultures to education and life. Through her experiences, she gained a more nuanced outlook on the world and realised the importance of fostering a healthy and educated community.
Sara aspires to work on sustainability and climate issues. She believes that to have a positive impact on her community, she needs to have great knowledge, communication and leadership skills to be able to develop functional systems.
To effectively reach her goals, she got involved in various activities and groups to develop the skills and gain the necessary experience. Namely, the STEM ambassador masterclass was a student mentoring initiative that she contributed to in high school and one that she believes was a project that taught her about the importance of teamwork, communication and time management.
She hopes to introduce similar initiatives at UQ, so that she can contribute to a better and more sustainable community and future. She is honoured to be a Scholar of the Liveris Academy and is looking forward to her journey at UQ and beyond.
