One of the biggest influences on the habits and ethics that Ewan upholds was his Grandpa, through the stories he told and the stories others told about him. His life story, starting in his early years as the son of a Welsh miner to becoming a senior British electrical engineer, inspired Ewan to understand and appreciate the life-changing impact that education can have on one’s capabilities and future opportunities. As Ewan moves through life, he has learnt to appreciate opportunities which open themselves to him and to take advantage of challenges as paths to self-improvement.

Ewan graduated from the Queesland Academy for Science Mathematics and Technology (QASMT) in 2020 as Academy Dux and Valedictorian. He has a keen interest in the studies of physics and economics, and specifically how mathematics can be used in the real-world applications of these fields. With his interest and enthusiasm for the subjects, he fulfilled the role of QASMT and UQ Science Ambassador in 2019 to boost scientific engagement in his local communities and in 2020 received Queensland awards for his high school scientific research investigations.

In his final high school year, Ewan served as Academy Captain, through which, he grappled with the impacts of COVID-19 and to the opportunity and responsibility to support the student community, become involved with student advocacy and hone his leadership abilities. This position, along with other chapters of Ewan’s life, have shaped his personality and progressive outlook, and he is excited to embark on the adventures which the Liveris Academy will give him access to.
