Stavros Niarchos Foundation Scholar

Rowan Campbell is undertaking a dual Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) and Bachelor of Science (Marine Biology) at The University of Queensland, driven by an interest in how innovation, capital allocation, and environmental stewardship intersect. His academic focus spans sustainable finance, climate innovation, and the blue economy.

During his time at UQ, Rowan has engaged deeply in both entrepreneurship and social-impact consulting. He is the founder of Fat Algae, a climate and food-technology venture developing premium cooking oil from microalgae. The business has participated in multiple startup programs, received early validation funding, and is working with academic partners to advance pilot production. Rowan also serves as a Consulting Director at 180 Degrees Consulting UQ, leading projects supporting non-profits and sustainability-focused organisations across governance, strategy, and digital engagement.

In 2026, Rowan is completing a semester abroad at the University of California, San Diego, undertaking coursework in management, renewable energy systems, and marine science at the Rady School of Management and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. His scientific interests have included coral reef ecology, fisheries modelling, and climate-related ocean impacts.

Outside of study, Rowan is an avid surfer, freediver, and former ski and snowboard instructor in Canada. He hopes to leverage his combined background in finance and marine science to contribute to the development of scalable climate solutions. Rowan is excited to join the Liveris Academy and learn alongside a community of students committed to building a more sustainable future.
