Bachelor of Electrical Engineering
Young Achievers Program (YAP) Scholar
Skyla is currently an Electrical Engineering undergraduate at The University of Queensland, with a strong interest in power systems, sustainability, and the renewable energy transition. Her studies combine technical problem-solving with a focus on real-world impact, particularly in reshaping how energy is generated, managed, and delivered in Australia. She is passionate about using engineering to support the shift toward cleaner, more resilient infrastructure.
Skyla grew up in Lismore, Northern NSW, where she graduated as dux and vice-captain in 2023. Growing up in a flood-affected area, she has seen firsthand how climate change has increased the frequency and severity of major flooding events within her lifetime. This experience has deepened her interest in renewable energy as a pathway to mitigating the impacts of climate change.
At university, Skyla is involved in a range of activities outside of her studies. She is currently an EAIT Student Ambassador and Student Leader, regularly supporting outreach and transition programs for new engineering students. She has also volunteered with UQ Union, participated in the Ventures LeadHers program, and mentored first-year students through the Get Set program. Outside of university, Skyla enjoys crochet, karaoke, and playing hockey.
Skyla is keen to be a part of the Liveris Academy to build connections, learn from diverse perspectives, and grow her skills in leadership and problem-solving with a focus on real-world impact. She looks forward to contributing to a community of students committed to driving positive change.
