Preston Laurie

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)/Master of Engineering
Dow STEM Scholarship Scholar

Preston graduated from The Cathedral College Rockhampton in 2024 with an ATAR of 99.4, earning multiple academic and subject awards, including a QCE Certificate of Academic Commendation and a Subject Achievement Commendation. In Year 11, he served as a UQ Stem ambassador, participating in initiatives which helped to foster student interest in STEM. In his final year, he served as both Vice and House Captain, making active contributions to his school community.

In 2025, Preston began a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Master of Engineering at The University of Queensland, intending to specialise in mechatronics. Through this specialisation, he aims to develop a broader skillset spanning multiple disciplines.

With his degree, Preston hopes to contribute meaningfully to the world around him, ideally through working in small-scale startups where he can take on projects with broad scope and continue honing his problem-solving skills. He is committed to making the most of his time at university, taking purposeful steps toward a future where he can help shape positive change.

Having relocated to Brisbane for his studies, Preston is enthusiastic about the opportunities available both within and beyond UQ. He is also passionate about travelling and hopes to participate in the European Double degree program in his final year.

Preston is deeply honoured to have been awarded the Dow STEM Scholarship and to be part of the Liveris Academy. He aspires to honour the intent of these positions by actively engaging with the opportunities they offer.
